Cinevate Behind the Scenes

Some of you may recall that Patrick, Conrad and John from Stillmotion were here a few weeks ago working on a little project with us. The project involved 3 days of shooting, and the end product is actually 3 different edits. One of the goals was to shoot an up front piece (will be on our main website page) to give folks an idea of what we're about. The piece was shot with a Canon XH-A1, EX1, Zeiss lenses (same as the glass we sell) and the 80-200 f2.8d Nikon zoom. There's a few more surprises hiding in there too.

What was planned and what the piece became are quite a bit different, but Patrick ended up capturing our vibe perfectly. Enjoy...and comments are most desired

Well done. How did you keep the overspray off of the lens in that powdercoat room?

Michael, powder coat is electrostatically applied (voltage differential between charged powder particles and part), then baked on. So unless you sit in that oven for 30 minutes at 450F, you're OK...it just blows off What you saw there in terms of the prep booth, gun, and oven represents about $150 000 in capital investment.

That's a lovely video, great composition and best of all it works because it makes me feel glad to be a customer. Did I spot something new on the brevis there!

Paul, you saw (or will see) three new products/prototypes there. The first one is coming next week

Hmmm, intriguing... is this like one of those newspaper spot the difference challenges?

I noticed the small wired device on the imaging elelment holder, is that the new anti-dust mechanism?

There's also some big frame around the EX1 that I can't figure out, I hope that's not the new optical solution as it might be a tad on the large size

The only other things that got my wallet shaking was the slider being used, and of course that lovely follow focus model. Am I getting close?

They are the camera plates for the Proteus rails.

Paul, you're good At the risk of being accused of "RED hyping" these projects, what I can tell you is that the there will be three product launches this month of things you've never seen before. The follow focus doesn't count as one of the three. What I can also promise is that you guys will be pleased and amazed with how we've leveraged your existing investment in the Proteus rails system.

...Is one of the new products a 'glidetrack' type camera dolly?

I don't recognize the one that is being used there and it looks to be much better constructed than the one I purchased recently (that Paul Joy uses)

The one I have is struggling to support the weight of a fully loaded brevis setup and as a result it does not 'glide' very well.

Aram, we're planning to do something similar in the summer so we'll be looking for you and Mike to join us. The single most rewarding aspect of this gig is the great relationships we've forged with shooters like you..and it's only going to get better. When I look at how you've worked and transitioned to the Urbanmouse project, I can't help feeling like we've all grown up a bit together

I definitely feel the same way. Your product is what really got me that quality and look I wanted and has gotten us to where we are today. Like the guy in your video says, I don't think Dennis will stop ever. I don't want to stop either, I finally found something I love doing and meeting people like you makes it so worth it.
