Cinevate Flip Module

Hi,
I saw on the cinevate site under the FLASH demo link- introducing the new "flip module that says "Due to the changed optical path, you will see improved edge sharpness and light distribution". I hope Dennis can elaborate a bit more on this. How does the module actually achieve that?

The optical path is longer, therefore you have less distortion at the edges. It improves soft edges and CA (depending on the lens). It's a happy side effect.

I am seriously starting to consider one of these flip modules. The incidental/accidental improvements to the image sound sweet. If it were to have a name for itself, it should be called the Cinevate "Serendipity" (or Serenflipity), because of the fortunate discoveries made by accident. Besides that, it looks great on the pictures that I have seen.

Any extra support needed for these flip units? As far as I can tell in the photos, there is nothing extra.

I wouldn't think of using the flip without rails. That's a lot of weight on a camera's threads.

Based on this, would the spacer ring be something that improves sharpness as well?

I bought the pre-flip unit about 2 months ago. I was wondering, when will be ready the flip unit? And will you send an email to those who bought the pre-flip unit?

The flip units are ready... the first batch is claimed... I believe shipping has begun.

FANTASTIC NEWS!!

I have got the flip to work with the Brevis and the EX1. I haven't shot anything, that's tomorrow but it works and focuses on the GG now.

What have I done? Very little really...tried repeatedly with no success then I tried reversing the flip. When you get the flip it looks identical on either side. Especially with the logo. Is there a difference I really don't know but I removed everything and put it the other way around and hey presto...it WORKS!

I am worried that this has just been my ineptitude. If it is then I am very sorry. I shall make up for it with lovely pics. I promise. As much as I adore my extreme it's incredibly important to have competition out there as it makes everyone work harder and produce the best product for people like us!

So tomorrow I take it and my CF2LE out to shoot some pics. Wish me luck!

done some basic tests which you can see on my blog. It's not the best example of what it is capable of. With Dennis Wood's help I hope to get the best out of the brevis flip and ex1 soon. I plan to do some filming on Saturday and it would be great to get it perfect before then!
